Horse owners are one of the few groups of livestock owners that buy hay by the bale. A faculty member from the University of Minnesota recently developed an app for iPhones and iPads that converts price per bale to price per ton. Hay buyers enter the bale weight and price, and price per ton can be calculated for small square-bales, large square-bales and round-bales, allowing the buyer to compare and choose the most economical hay.
